FAQs

How does a student join POP?

Joining POP works differently at each site. At Independence Charter School West and St. Rose of Lima, all students are eligible to enroll in the program. At St. Francis de Sales, students must be selected through a randomized lottery in order to join the program.

For our Chamber Music program, students from across the city, regardless of which school they attend, can enroll. If you are interested in having your child join us, click here to fill out an interest form.

What instruments do you offer at POP?

At POP, we offer a large range of instruments* that reflect the traditional orchestral family. These include:

  • Bassoon
  • Oboe
  • Clarinet
  • Flute
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Tuba
  • Saxophone
  • Euphonium
  • French Horn
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • Double Bass
  • Harp
  • Percussion

*please note, not every instrument is offered at every site or even every year.

How can I bring POP to my child’s school?

If you are interested in having POP programming at your child’s school, get in touch with your principal! We have a selection process to help us find potential new sites, and having a principal reach out to us is an excellent way to start the process.

Will POP be offering other types of music in the future, besides classical?

While the orchestras and ensembles at Play On Philly perform repertoire from a variety of genres, the orchestra and the community it fosters is at the center of what we do.

Can my student attend POP Summer Camp?

Yes! Our POP Summer Camp is open to both students enrolled in our Music Centers and POPSO, as well as the rest of Philadelphia community. If you would like to enroll your student in our POP Summer Camp, please visit our Summer Music Camp page.
