On Friday, December 18th, we invite you to celebrate our students’ work, including the premiere of an original composition written together with Dr. Iman Habibi and performed by our students. We will also share our students’ collaborative works created in partnership with BalletX and Fleisher Art Memorial. This is a free event, but for security reasons, registration is required. Creative Conversations for a Changing World: Looking to Others
Drexel University’s ExCITe Center Director Youngmoo Kim and Play On Philly (POP) Program Director Jessica Zweig continue hosting Creative Conversations for a Changing World, a free online series of discussions with Philadelphia cultural, education, and technology leaders centered around innovation through the COVID-19 pandemic. The third and final discussion will focus on will talk about looking to organizations in other sectors for inspiration and innovation. Join Jessica and Youngmoo for the final panel discussion Looking to Others featuring Juliet Fink Yates, Digital Inclusion Fellow at the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Innovation and Technology, Bill Rhoads, Senior Vice President of Esperanza Arts Center, and Chris Bartlett, Executive Director at William Way LGBT Community Center.

The second discussion will focus on collaboration. Panelists for this session include Ellen Fishman, composer and Director of Arts & New Media at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, Jay Fluellen, composer and Choir Director at Northeast High School, and Paul Smith, co-founder of VOCES8.

Drexel University’s ExCITe Center Director Youngmoo Kim and Play On Philly (POP) Program Director Jessica Zweig will host Creative Conversations for a Changing World, a free online series of discussions with Philadelphia cultural, education, and technology leaders centered around innovation through the COVID-19 pandemic. The first discussion How Arts and Education are Innovating through the Pandemic will be held on September 15th at 4:00 pm ET as part the B.PHL Innovation Fest. David Devan of Opera Philadelphia, Valerie Gay of the Barnes Foundation, and Melissa Talley-Palmer of Bartol Foundation will discuss program-design shifts and co-creating with staff, students, and audiences.

Beyond POP: A conversation with Kerwin Young
Join us this Friday for a POP community conversation with Kerwin Young. As part of Mr. Young’s collaboration with us for POP Summer Virtual, he will speak about his career, which has ranged from hip hop producer to classical music composer, and will answer questions from students interested in going into musical career pathways. The workshop is open to the greater community.

Join us in this time of reflection, appreciation, and celebration for our free POP Virtual Jubilee on Friday, May 29th. The concert will include performances and messages of inspiration and hope by POP students, Astral Artist’s Tommy Mesa, and a virtual orchestra performance of an excerpt from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 by our Teaching Artists. This is a free event, but for security reasons, registration is required. We hope that you will join us and invite your friends and family to help us celebrate the talents and resilience of our students, their families, and our POP family!
