SUMMARY:Side-by-side Concert with the Swarthmore College Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The Swarthmore College Orchestra will partner with the Play On Philly Chamber Orchestra for a dynamic side-by-side concert. Play On Philly (POP) is one of the treasures of music education in our area\, providing daily intensive music instruction to students from pre-K to 12th grade on orchestral instruments for students who would otherwise lack access to these opportunities. The Swarthmore College Orchestra is made up of 65 students spanning a wide range of majors at the college\, all of whom share a passion for orchestral music making. Our two orchestras will join together for rehearsals in Philadelphia and Swarthmore\, as well as sharing social time together on campus to learn more about one another.

DESCRIPTION:Intermediate and advanced brass and percussion players from the POP Summer Program and across Philadelphia will spend a day working with musicians from the United States Marine Band in preparation for a FREE outdoor side-by-side concert in Presser Hall’s Courtyard (weather permitting). DESCRIPTION:Join Astral Artists\, Play On Philly\, and BalletX for a Young At Art concert on Saturday\, March 11th at 2 PM at the Teatro Esperanza\, hosted by the Esperanza Arts Center. The focus of Young At Art is experiencing the arts through fresh eyes\, seeing new connections through artists of different genres\, ages and levels of experience creating together. Launched in 2021\, Young At Art began as a series of virtual mentoring visits and concerts where Astral Artists and Play On Philly musicians explored music and visual art in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia. Now in its third year\, Young At Art will explore the interconnection of music and dance through Astral Artists rising professional musicians\, Play On Philly young musicians\, and BalletX emerging dancers in their Dance Fellowship and Dance eXchange Dream Team. Young At Art will culminate in a collaborative performance celebrating dance music of Latin America and Latinx composers. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but reservations are required. SUMMARY:POP's Virtual Winter Concert
DESCRIPTION:Due to COVID concerns\, we had to cancel our in-person Winter Concerts scheduled for this month\, but our staff is pulling off another miracle at the very last minute to create a recorded performance in their place. Our Teaching Artists and students have demonstrated flexibility and dedication as we pivot\, working hard to get ready for ensemble recordings next week. While we were so excited for our students to hear roaring applause from a live audience for the first time in 28 months\, we are excited to once again be able to share their virtual performance far and wide!
