In addition to serving as mentors and teaching assistants at POP, many of our Ambassadors, or POP graduates, have been working hard preparing chamber music. A group of six students attending various high schools meets with St. Francis de Sales Site Coordinator and cellist Lucy Strother weekly to rehearse string chamber ensemble repertoire. When the Ambassador Ensemble was invited to perform at one of Joe Coffee's "Thursday Night Throwdowns," they were thrilled to have the opportunity to show off all the hard work and rehearsal time they had committed to chamber music. They were even more excited at the prospect of getting free specialty coffees at the event!
On the freezing evening of Thursday, January 23, the students and Lucy rode the trolley into Center City and trudged through the snow to Rittenhouse Square. They were immediately met with kindness and hospitality from the Joe staff. The students performed works by Mozart, Puccini and Mancini to enthusiastic applause from a packed house of coffee professionals. With two public performances under their belt, the Ambassadors are looking forward to the next opportunity!
