Joseph Lin, first violinist of the world-renowned Juilliard Quartet, visited St. Francis de Sales School on October 4th to coach POP senior string players in both small chamber ensembles and string orchestra. Leading the students in a master class, Mr. Lin challenged the students to strive for new levels of detail and quality in their ensemble playing. When they weren’t performing, the students had the opportunity to observe their peers from the audience, alongside guests from the Jubilee School.
In November, the students will have a chance to attend an open rehearsal of the Juilliard Quartet. In preparation, the students will write essays that compare Beethoven and Haydn quartets. The members of the quartet will judge the essays and present prizes for the strongest submissions!
