Christine Lamprea, a very talented young cellist, visited POP at St. Francis de Sales School to play for our students and also mentor them. Christine was the First Prize winner of the 2013 Sphinx Competition. The Sphinx Competition offers young Black and Latino classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians in a competition setting. Its primary goals are to encourage, develop and recognize classical music talent in the Black and Latino communities.
POP was honored to have Christine treat our entire St. Francis student body to two beautiful pieces, after which she helped coach cellists Yani Turner and Chase Kelsey, in addition to sitting in with the Firebird String Orchestra rehearsal. We were humbled to listen to such beautiful music and thrilled to have Christine as a teacher.
